A request: hear our voice
The Amidah's open-ended request — “hear our voice” — into which any prayer of the heart can be poured. It seals, “who hears prayer.”
Sh'ma kolenu Adonai Eloheinu, chus v'rachem aleinu.
Hear our voice, Lord our God; have pity and mercy on us.
שְׁמַע — the same “hear” that opens the Shema.
