The V'ahavta

The lines right after the Shema. After loving God “with all your heart,” the words turn to action — teach them, bind them on hand and head (tefillin), write them on your doorposts (mezuzah).

V'shinantam l'vanecha, v'dibarta bam.

Teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them.

V'shinantaml'vanechav'dibartabam

Ukshartam l'ot al yadecha, v'hayu l'totafot bein einecha.

Bind them as a sign on your hand, and let them be frontlets between your eyes.

These words are the basis of tefillin — the boxes bound on arm and head.
